Ascension Ascender - Right
Petzl's Ascension handled ascender is one of the most popular ascenders for rope climbing in the world. Ergonomic design with a cushioned handle helps keep you from fatiguing even on a long SRS ascent. The upper part of the ascender is curved to fit the hand to maximize power when pulling with two hands.
The cam is easy to engage with the thumb. A small carabiner can be used to trap the rope and keep the cam engaged. The robust aluminum body provides ample grip, yet remains lightweight. Each ascender has a slot in the lower body for attaching footcords or tethers.

This is how I SRT

I'm mainly a DRT arborist, but some jobs demand SRT, at the very least for getting into position. I use L & R ascenders with slings & foot 'stirrups'. This gear is rugged and definitely withstands the test of time. They are rated down to as thin as 8mm line. Grips are supple - very easy on the hands. If you're lucky enough to be working along level, lateral branches you don't even have to change over to DRT. The holes over the cam are for mini 'biners, an extra margin of safety to prevent your line from jumping the channel should you grab the handle off-axis. But I have used these probably 15 years and that has never happened. The only caution I would mention is that these are ONE WAY only, lol. You cannot descend, and you cannot unclip without slack. You must move these upward to release the cam. So make sure you have a comfortable place to clip in w/your lanyard, to do your change-over.
