Description
A 30" loop formed with a compact bartack in Samson's 7.5mm Bail Out heat-resistant prusik cord. Plenty long enough to tie a proper Machard hitch as a back up or progress capture tool.
Samson's Bail Out cord was developed to be the ultimate in heat-resistant cords. The 100% Technora fiber is heat-resistant to 900 degrees and highly durable. Bail Out will provide long service and work well on any 11mm (7/16") rope.
A Machard loop is a friction hitch made from a sewn or tied loop of heat-resistant cord wrapped around a climbing rope. When weighted, it grips the rope securely; when unweighted, it can be slid up or down easily.
In arboriculture, a Machard loop is commonly used for:
- Backup friction hitch in climbing systems.
- Ascending a rope as part of a rope-walking or foot-ascender system.
- Work positioning, allowing climbers to adjust their position smoothly.
- Progress capture during hauling or lifting operations, preventing a load from slipping backward.
- Emergency self-rescue or rope transfer in certain climbing and rescue scenarios.
The Machard is valued because it tends to release more easily after being loaded than some other friction hitches, making it a popular choice for tree climbers. However, it must always be used with the correct cord diameter, compatible rope, and proper technique according to the manufacturer's guidance and industry best practices.
