One of the most important safety items for tree climbing is the climber's helmet. Anyone working or climbing at heights must wear a climbing helmet and not a hard hat. Hard hats are designed to protect from objects falling from above only, and climbers face potential injury from the sides as well, making a climbing helmet designed to protect from side and back impact necessary. Today's climbing helmets are also designed to stay put in case of a fall, with adjustable suspension and chin straps. Without these, a hard hat is nearly useless in the tree if it falls off during an incident. Besides the obvious safety benefits of a helmet over a hard hat, they will also be much more comfortable and most can mount face or eye shields and hearing protection for added safety and convenience.

Shock absorption is achieved through deformation of the outer shell. Range of adjustability is 20.9” - 24.8”. Weighs 16 oz. Made in France.

“I upgraded from the vertex vent to the vent 2. I like the new visor option as this is great for windy days. My only complaint is that the new dual dials loosen up on their own and need adjusted often.”
The new Alveo Vent is Petzl's lightest weight and most ventilated helmet yet. It fits closer to the skull than the Vertex and is therefore more stable and less noticeable. The new Centerfit adjustment system with two adjustment knobs ensures optimal fit and stability by centering the head inside the shell. “The helmet sits with the brim pointing slightly down, not too annoying until you flip the face screen down and it rests on your nose and chin. You have to maneuver the earmuffs under the side of the helmet then up to get them to sit over your ears. the chin strap gets under the muffs. The helmet feels very top heavy with the muffs and visor up, like having half a bowling ball on the top of your head. The chin strap is pretty harsh and the big plastic buckle digs into my chin. Wish I had tried one on before buying. Comes in nice colors :-) ”

“I just received this helmet today and my first impression was WOW! I couldn't believe how light it was, I'm so used to my 48.00 dollar Husqvarna but after 4 years I figured it was time to upgrade, well this new helmet is a little bit different, I am sure I'll get used to it but after a more thorough inspection and after trying it on I found out that the earmuffs are not as effective at reducing the noise as my Husqvarna's, maybe because the chin strap gets in the way and it doesn't let the earmuffs seal around the ear completely, maybe I'm supposed to move the chin strap out of the way every time I need to put the earmuffs on (too annoying) they should make the chin strap removable or more efficient, chin strap also comes with some Velcro loops with very sharp corners that scratch your face every time you turn your head (minor issue but annoying). Another thing that I discovered is that the black trim around the helmet is not glued on, it was coming off on one side of my brand new helmet upon unpacking of it I hope it doesn't become a major issue in the future, I think I'll call WesSpur to find out if that's the way it is supposed to be, all in all I give this helmet a 70 out of 100. If I had had the chance to try it on before buying it I probably would have picked a different one.”
