Petzl's Basic ascender provides excellent grip in a more compact shape than a handled ascender. The Basic can be used as a hand ascender or even as part of a RADS climbing setup. The wide slot in the bottom of the Basic easily accommodates two carabiners for attaching tether and foot cord.
