Save time, labor, and hassle by installing the environmentally-sensitive Duckbill Earth Anchors - no holes, digging, or concrete required! Duckbill Earth Anchors work like toggle bolts and are easy to drive into the ground. An upward pull of the attached wire rope rotates the anchor into a perpendicular "locked" position for superior holding capacities.

The Duckbill is made from aluminum alloys, which makes it a strong, lightweight, and affordable solution to your anchoring needs. WesSpur currently offers two different sizes of Duckbill Earth Anchors most commonly useful for arborist needs:

Model #88 (RIG385)
3,000 lb. recommended working load in normal soils (wire rope capacity 6,100 lb). The most popular Duckbill Anchor, this model is generally used with 1/4" cable. For more aggressive soil, it can be used with 5/16" cable. Standard installation depth is 42". Attached wire rope is 3.5' long.

Model #88 uses the 4' Drive Rod (RIG393). See the "Buy Duckbill Drive Rods" tab above to order.

Model #68 (RIG386)
1,100 lb. recommended working load in normal soils (wire rope capacity 1,200 lb). Best for medium holding capacities cabled with 1/8" cable. For more aggressive soil, it can be used with 3/16" cable. Standard installation depth is 30". Attached wire rope is 2.5' long.

Model #68 uses the 3' Drive Rod (RIG392). See the "Buy Duckbill Drive Rods" tab above to order.

See "Safety & Technical" tab and "Video" tab for more information, technical specifications, and installation/usage guidelines.

Holding Capacities

Anchor holding capacity will vary in different soils. Increased capacities can be expected in harder soil classes (numerically higher blow count classifications) and lower capacity can be expected in the softer soil classes (numerically lower blow count).

Anchors are rated in an average (class 5) soil condition. The rating is meant to be a reference for anchor selection. Proof-loading is the only way to insure the exact capacity of each installation.

Normal Soil* is defined as follows:

Most Common Soil Types: Dense Fine Sand, Very Hard Silts and Clays, Dense Clays, Sands, Gravel, Hard Silts and Clays

*Typical Blow Count Per ASTM-D1586 is 24-40
