The Hitch Hiker 2 is a steel hybrid device which tends and assists your friction hitch in both SRS and MRS climbing. Some SRT climbing systems can become very long and unwieldy. he Hitch Hiker is nice and compact, and easy to use.

Ropetek's Hitch Hiker 2 advances smoothly and engages instantly when weighted, with easy slack tending. Tie a stopper knot on one side of the "dog bone" at the top of the HH2, then tie the hitch as normal. Pass the tail back through the dog bone and tie the second stopper knot.

The dog bone tends the hitch on ascent. The pressure of the dog bone and carabiner on the rope takes some of the pressure of your body weight off the hitch, letting you climb on your friction hitch in SRS. When the Hitch Hiker 2 is weighted, the dog bone and carabiner press into the rope for additional friction.

The Hitch Hiker 2 is sold with a steel carabiner and 4' of 9mm hitch cord. You can buy extra hitch cord to experiment with different configurations. 8mm hitch cords will work best on 11mm (7/16") ropes, while 10mm hitch cord is suited for 12-13mm (1/2") ropes. 9mm hitch cords such can be made to work well for a wide range of rope diameters.

Good for single and doubled rope climbing

by John -

I use this almost every job. I got it with 9mm RIT and it is still working well since 2016. I can climb single line with it attached as a chest ascender, leave it that way in canopy or transition to harness bridge ring for work positioning. I also climb it traditional doubled line attached to harness bridge. It works very well. It is heavy, but I find the strength, durability, and versatility worth the weight.
