Single Rope Technique (SRT) climbing puts different demands on the climbing line than Doubled Rope climbing. SRT is often chosen for long ascents with mechanical ascenders or hybrid devices, so a lightweight rope with a very smooth jacket that is a compatible size for hardware is required. Frequently, toothed-cam ascenders are employed in SRT climbing, which makes a tightly-braided jacket on the rope desirable. Kernmantle ropes are constructed with a tightly-braided jacket over a load-bearing core, making them ideal SRT ascent lines.
The selection of climbing lines on this page is from the top arborist rope manufacturers in the world, and gives you an excellent selection of SRT lines from which to choose.
Kernmaster is a 48-strand Kernmantle rope with an outer polyester jacket over an energy-absorbing nylon core. Kernmaster makes an excellent SRT line. It is very low stretch and works great in all of your favorite Single Rope hardware, as well as being a good DdRT line.
7,100 lb. average breaking strength - Weighs 5.5 lb. per 100' - Kernmantle
HTP (High Tenacity Polyester) is 100% polyester and offers better durability and strength & extremely low stretch versus mixed-fiber ropes. With such low stretch, HTP is a highly efficient rope for hauling, ascending, and high angle rescue situations. HTP ropes perform better in harsh environments. For long ascents (over 300' or line in the system) HTP has no equal.
In the 7/16” (11mm) diameter, Sterling HTP has an average breaking strength of 7,660 lb and weighs 6.5 lb per 100’.
7,418 lb. minimum breaking strength - 9/20” (11.5mm) - Weighs 6 lb. per 100’ - Kernmantle
Since the debut of platinum, climbers have been waiting for a "big platinum" to arrive, and here it is. The larger hand of Platinum makes it friendlier for arborists used to climbing on 1/2” lines, though Platinum Arbor Access comes in at 11.5mm - 9/20” and just a hair under 1/2”. The larger diameter of Platinum brings an increase in minimum breaking strength to an impressive 7,418 lb. and only increases the weight to 6lb per 100'.
Like the smaller version, Platinum 11.5mm Arbor Access has regular bonding of the core and cover over the length of the rope, for a kernmantle with no cover slippage, bunching, or milking.
Platinum's unique braiding process joins the braided cover with the core at regular intervals. This eliminates cover slippage, and bunching. This makes it an extremely consistent and reliable rappelling line and can be used for canopy access.
