Heat-resistant prusiks have become popular choices for tying your friction hitch thanks to their added durability and resistance to heat which could be generated during a rapid descent. WesSpur sells spliced prusiks, as well as selling all cords Bulk Cord (by the foot) if you want to tie your own. Spliced prusiks are provided by the professional splicers of Iron Street Splicing.
Please note that the hand-spliced eyes on Bee Line, Ultra Tech, and HRC will be stiff initially. This is normal. These type of eyes may offer resistance the first few times you put a carabiner in.

Each cord in the "Eye & Eye" tester is 5' long - enough to tie an eye and eye prusik, but too short for a loop prusik.
Each cord in the "Prusik Loop" tester is 8' long - enough to a loop prusik or trim to tie an Eye & Eye hitch.
Both packs contain the following cords:
Sterling listened to requests from professional climbers to build a durable hitch cord that is easy to work with in all kinds of weather. The Flex core is made of ultra strong and water-resistant polyester fibers surrounded by a blended Technora/polyester sheath that provides solid abrasion resistance with enough bite to hitch firmly onto ropes.
Sterling's popular RIT cord is available in a mid-sized 9mm. This unique size works well on a wide range of ropes, from 11mm to 13mm. RIT cord is heat-resistant and has a round body that holds its shape well.
Sterling's 5/16” RIT ("Right in Trees") hitch cord is heat-resistant and high-performance. The 30” Sewn Prusik provides consistent and even friction on a wide range of climbing lines and meets ANSI standards. The adjustable 16” Bound Loop Prusik has an innovative alternative to bulkier knots and is great for rigging, climbing, and lanyard adjustment. The 16” Bound Loop Prusik w/Ring includes a 1 5/8” diameter (1 1/16” inside diameter) aluminum ring to give greater options for rigging, climbing, and lanyard adjustment. “ Excellent prusik, bites and releases easily with half inch climbing line. Used the bee line five days a week for a little over a year and finally had to replace due to normal wear. Highly recommend for any level climber. ”

“Bee line has too much drag when used with blaze climbing line ”
For years, the larger diameter of Bee Line had a different construction than the 8mm. Now both 8mm and 10mm Bee Line share the same strong, heat-resistant construction of the Technora/Poly jacket over the high-strength Vectran core. In the larger 3/8” (10mm) diameter, Bee Line works great on a wide range of 1/2” arborist climbing ropes.
epiCORD is the latest hitchcord in the TEUFELBERGER range. epiCORD has a tight cover of polyester and Technora which gives it the necessary heat resistance but is flexible enough to let you tie hitches easily. The core of epiCORD is a blend of Technora and dyneema braided in a special balance that allows your hitch to release when you need it to. At 9.3mm, this cord will work well on most climbing lines, from 11mm to 13mm.
Ocean hitch cord is a popular heat-resistant, high-performance hitch cord created by Teufelberger (makers of the treeMOTION harness). The Kevlar fibers in ocean provide heat and wear-resistance. This cord maintains a good grip and round body, and works best on 7/16” lines.
Kevlar fibers in the jacket provide increased durability and heat-resistance in Ocean cord. This larger diameter will work best on 1/2” climbing lines.
Armor-prus blends Spectra and Kevlar fibers in the core for excellent strength, and protects those fibers with a jacket containing Technora fibers (heat-resistant up to 900 degrees Fahrenheit). Armor-prus in this size will work best on 1/2” climb lines, and grips well on a variety of ropes thanks to its fuzzy texture.
Ultra-Tech is one of the first cords that was used as a heat-resistant prusik. Unlike other cords, Ultra-Tech's heat-resistant element is provided by the Technora core fibers instead of the outer fibers.

“ Burned to the core material after three days of use. I'm a utility arborist so typically only climbing 40-50 feet. Used the bee line prior to this prusik and the bee line lasted a year, five days a week climbing. Wouldn't recomend this prusik. ”

“ I figured that I would give this prusik cord a try, but I was rather disappointed. In my opinion the outer jacket is too slick and the body is too firm. Admittedly I didn't take the time to try it, but based on that slick jacket and firm body I just don't trust it to grab reliably (especially in a VT). I have been using it as an overpriced accessory cord instead. ”
One of the original cords used as a heat-resistant hitch cord, Samson's Ultra-Tech 3/8” has a high strength, heat-resistant core, and will work well on 1/2” climbing lines.

“ I would recommend this. I have used it with 5/8th Stable Braid to hold purchase in mechanical advantage. Also works well for me girth hitched as an anchor to a small Portawrap for catching and lowering larger Douglas fir limbs with a 1/2" rigging line. It is tough, firm bodied, but still will release smoothly under a load, even wrapped 4 times around the Stable Braid as a prussic, with a firm bit of massaging. ”
Ice Tail from Samson is an easy-to-splice 12-strand cord that has great hand and provides excellent grip, and is heat-resistant thanks to the Technora fibers in its construction. At 5/16”, this cord will work best on 7/16” ropes.
Samson's Bail Out cord was developed to be the ultimate in heat-resistant cords. The 100% Technora fiber is heat-resistant to 900 degrees and highly durable. Bail Out will provide long service and work well on any 7/16” rope.
HRC (Heat Resistant Cord) from New England Ropes is a highly heat-resistant prusik with a “fuzzy” texture that helps it grab and is friendly to handle. Durable, low-stretch, and long-lasting hitch cord. HRC (Heat Resistant Cord) in this diameter is best-suited for use on 7/16” (11mm) climbing lines.
Footlock prusiks made from heat-resistant, reinforced Samson Ice Tail in 3 lengths so you can get the right size for your stride. The measurements given are the length of the prusik from the throat of the big eye to the end.
This sewn loop prusik made from Samson's tough Bail Out cordage (see above) provides ample length to tie a proper Machard or Klemheist loop.

The Hitch Climber is the single most popular pulley for organizing a hitch system, thanks to the 3 holes which streamline the system, and open up additional tie-in options for advanced uses. Grab a Hitch Climber set and get the pulley, oval carabiners, and hitch cord all in one go.
Match up the prusik diameter with your climbing line: 5/16" prusiks will work with 7/16" ropes, 3/8" for 1/2", and 9mm prusiks will work with either.
