The Petzl I'D is a self-braking descender and belay device for single rope. Moving the handle allows the rope to run, with the rate of descent being controlled by your the free hand. If the handle is released, the cam is engaged and stops descent. Anti-panic device automatically brakes if the handle is pulled too far. The button on the handle makes for easier movement on horizontal and low-angle terrain. Built-in safety catch reduces the risk of incorrect installation, and the safety gate on the moving side plate makes installing quick and easy, while reducing the chance of dropping the device. The cam shape on the Petzl I'D was specifically designed to improve rope glide, and it pivots to easily take up slack in the rope. Locking screw allows the I'D to be part of a rescue kit.
The I'D is a great choice for Yo-Yo or RADS (Rapid Ascent/Descent System) systems because it is easy even for beginners to operate safely. It also makes a terrific belay device attached to the anchor sling in an SRT anchor system, as it is easy for anyone to lower off the climber.
NOTE: The Petzl I'D L is designed for rescue and lacks the gated attachment hole found on the I'D S.
